Internet2 Detective Applet
The Internet2 Detective is now accessible directly
from your web browser! This version of the Internet2 applet is finished
(!) so we encourage users to try it out and give a report of their
results. If you encounter a problem or have a suggestions please email detective@internet2.edu.
If you are reporting an error please include the operating system,
browser, whether you are on a wireless connection and your contact
information so we can get ahold of you if necessary.
Known Issues
Certificate
Windows: given that this must be a signed applet
in order to run the necessary network tests, when you launch the
Detective applet, a window like this will appear
click on
the either the "Yes" or the "Always" button and the applet will
run. If you don't want to see this message again, click the "Always" button. If you click
on the "No" button, the
Detective applet will not run.
WARNING: Excessive use of the Bandwidth, Multicast, or IPv6 tests may
cause network disruption and is highly advised against. This warning
especially applies to users on a wireless network.
NOTE FOR MAC USERS: If you are on
Mac OS X and are running Internet Explorer or Firefox the applet may
not load properly. Please use Safari when viewing the
applet.
FIREWALLS: If you are behind a
Firewall the detective may not work properly. To learn more visit http://detective.internet2.edu/firewalls.html.

The applet version of the Internet2
Detective is the result of a number of individuals combined efforts at
Internet2 and its member institutions. Development began during a
semester long directed study (referred to as the "neternship") and was
continued by Andrew Lake during his summer internship at
