License & Information
The Internet2 Detective is a small, easy to install and use application that is available for both the Microsoft Windows (R) and Apple OS X operating systems. This is an Applet version of that program that should work on most major browsers and operating systems although results may vary. It lets you know: +If a computer can access an Internet2 backbone network. +How much bandwidth is available. +Whether or not you can receive multicast streaming media. +Whether you are running on an IPv6 enabled network. For more information, please see: http://detective.internet2.edu/ Acknowledgements and Credits ====================== The Internet2 Detective builds on, and would not be possible without, Iperf and the Multicast Beacon developed by the National Science Foundation-funded NLANR Distributed Applications Support Team. Iperf is bundled with (but not incorporated into) the Detective to determine available bandwidth. The Detective listens for Beacon packets to determine multicast reception capability. For more information, see: NSF: http://www.nsf.gov/ DAST: http://dast.nlanr.net/ Iperf: http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ Mcast Beacon: http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Beacon/ Detective Team ============ Bob Riddle, Management Adam Saltsman, Implementation Greg Wood, Cheerleading Applet Team ============ Andrew Lake, Programming Brendan Shaezner, Subversion Administrator Rob Murdock, Programming James Hice, Programming Matt Middleton, Programming Special thanks to Jay Beavers of Microsoft Research for his significant contributions to the development of the Internet2 Detective. Protocol and Port Information ===================== Abilene Test: UDP(p7777) Bandwidth Test: UDP(p8888) Multicast Test: NLANR Multicast Beacon Information Collection Notice ===================== Similar to most Web servers, the "Abilene Access" server maintains a log of IP addresses, access dates and times. Currently, this information is entirely confidential, and users will be notified of any changes in that status. Legal Information ============== This software is a prototype and is released without support. The servers to which it connects may be removed at any time. Feedback is collected at detective@internet2.edu in case a future decision is made to support and/or enhance the Internet2 Detective.
